Faith and Christianity

What people have had the biggest impact on my faith?

In the past people have asked me “Taylor, how do you keep your faith after what God has put you though?” My answer at first was, “I really don’t know, I just read my devotional, and pray.” I didn’t really think about all the people in my life that help me with my faith on a day-to-day basis. I think it was college that really showed me how good people can actually be. So these are a few people who have had an impact on my faith and how.

  1. My college small group leader Katie: Going into college I was nervous about whether or not I was going to be able to keep a strong faith. It took me a few weeks, but I soon decided to put my name on the ignite website under “small groups” and a few days later Katie texted me, and asked me to come to her house for small group. All I can say is BEST DECISION EVER. Joining this small group, changed my life in more ways than one. I feel so accepted, and loved when I am in that group. Katie is a really inspiring person, and I am so thankful that God put her in my life. Having faith in college is really important to me, and having her to help with that, and just being a great friend is something I am so blessed to have.
  2. Olivia: Olivia is a girl in my small group, who I met the first day that I went to Katie’s house. I didn’t think we were going to be such good friends outside of small group. But God knew I was going to need someone like her. She has helped me through a lot of the stuff I have been through in college, and she is a really encouraging friend. I thank God for our friendship because it changed my life. It is important to have those friends who will be there for you no matter what you are going through. I have come to realize that you really do find your lifelong friends in college.
  3. My mom and grandma: I put these two people together because they kind of go hand in hand. My grandma always talk about God, and she goes to church a lot, and reminds me to go to church. My mom has always reinforced my faith ever since I was a child. By putting me in Sunday school, and pushing me to make my first communion, confirmation, etc…
  4. My high school youth leader Kenny: Kenny was my first youth leader, and he has had such a big impact on my life. I never really practiced my faith other than just going to church. Once I started high school, that changed, I went to youth group every Sunday, bible study on Wednesdays, and all the summer trips. The Georgia trip really changed my life in a lot of ways, because I grew so much in faith being there. I went for three years, and I couldn’t picture my life without that trip. I also went to a mission trip to Jamaica that was life-changing. Helping other people that week was so rewarding and the different struggles I came across that week made me grow in faith, and be appreciative of everything that I have. Now that I am in college, when I come home, I visit Kenny at Starbucks, and catch up, as well as talk about all my new experiences in college.
  5. Taylor: Taylor is another one of my friends from small group, who I really enjoy being friends with. Plus, having yet another Tay in my life is a blessing. There is something about being a Taylor that makes you awesome. I love hanging out with her, and sharing our love for coffee, and Jesus together. You can never go wrong with a little coffee and amazing friends.
  6. My God daughter Adeline: Being a God mother is a blessing. It helps me want to improve in my faith daily. Having someone look up to you for your faith, and the way you believe in God is so rewarding. Having a little person love me so much fills my heart. The last time I saw my God daughter she lit up like a christmas tree, and ran over to me and gave me a huge hug. Stuff like that is what is so important to me. Being able to pray with her and for her is important. Life is all about sharing the love of God with other people, and that is exactly what I am set out to do.

I could honestly keep going with people who have impacted my faith, but truth is, I would be writing forever (and I don’t have forever because the baby I’m nannying is going to be awake soon.) Thank you to all my friends, family, teachers, and others who have impacted my life in more ways than one. I am so blessed, and excited to start the New year with all my favorite people by my side.
